Good Genetics Enables Excellent Prices

With great agility and under the hammer of Oscar Mercol, 1,030 dairy livestock lots were auctioned at the Pozo del Molle Rural Society, as part of the local patronal festivities.

"We deeply regret that the exhibition could not be held for health reasons, but the auction went very well, with more than satisfactory prices," said Oscar Mercol.

More than 1,000 dairy cattle were offered for sale, including 390 advanced-pregnant and calved heifers, 170 heifers with 90 to 120 days of pregnancy, and the rest were breeding heifers and calves.

The top price was $345,000 for 12 heifers from Agramin, sold in seven installments, and the best lots ranged between $240,000, $250,000, and $280,000, with the top-quality trios reaching up to $310,000.

Lower-quality heifers sold between $180,000 and $220,000, while lots with late pregnancy (60 to 90 days) were sold between $140,000 and $165,000.

High-quality breeding heifers sold between $100,000 and $120,000 (while lower-quality lots ranged from $80,000 to $90,000), and the calves were sold at prices between $300 and $400 per live kilogram.

There were 41 buyers, including Los Quebrachitos, Ángel Etchegaray, Ariel Dalmasso, Carlos Róvere, Rino Vasquetto, and Daniel Dahier, among others. In general, sales were made with payment terms of 6, 8, and 10 installments.

“Prices were satisfactory given that there was very good genetics in the pens, something that buyers and attendees acknowledged. It also helps that, although the dairy business doesn’t yield the profit it should, it’s currently going through a good moment,” Mercol told TodoLechería.com.ar.

The most emotional moment of the auction was the tribute to Juan Carlos Rasino, leader and founder of the “El Arbolito” stud farm, who turned 80 and whose farm, dedicated to breeding high-quality Holando cattle in Pozo del Molle, is celebrating its Golden Jubilee after 50 years of work.
